The Triangle has scooped a prestigious design award.

It is one of just a handful of projects across the country to have been recognised for their good design and layout in this year’s Housing Design Awards, announced at the Banqueting House in Whitehall on Thursday.

The Triangle is the first on-site development for Haboakus, a joint venture between Kevin McCloud’s development company Hab and GreenSquare. This affordable housing scheme is laid out around a village green and the terraced houses will use air-source heat pumps and rain water recycling.

The awards, run by Design for Homes, acknowledge exceptional housing design in the public and private sectors, using criteria including external appearance and internal planning, relationship to surroundings and neighbourhood, sustainability in construction and handling of garages and car parking.

Several of the winning schemes, including The Triangle, are supported by funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Steve Carr, head of new business and economics at the HCA, said: “These schemes demonstrate the value of HCA support and the importance of enabling the creation of homes that are well designed and of benefit to local communities. Our commitment to supporting good quality, affordable homes means that more people will have access to affordable, attractive places in which to live and enjoy.”

Awards are made at two stages; for projects of great potential where the scheme has detailed planning permission but is not yet finished and occupied; and for completed schemes of outstanding merit.
